Obituary of Neil Kevin Barber
With great sadness the Barber family announces the passing of Neil Barber aged 73. Neil went home to Jesus on July 29th, 2022 after a courageous, year-long battle with cancer. His firm faith in God and devotion to family gave him peace and joy right to the end.
Dr. Neil Barber, M.B., B.S., (Lond), M.R.C.S. (Eng), L.R.C.P. (Lond), D.Obst. R.C.O.G., C.C.F.P., F.C.F.P. was born and raised in England and graduated from London University/Guy’s Hospital as a physician in 1971
He practised medicine for 45 years, 43 of those as a family physician in Kingston, in a solo practice and at Queen’s Department of Family Medicine.
In 1973, Neil married Merrilyn, a Guy’s Hospital nurse and midwife and together they moved to Canada to work and raise a family. Neil leaves behind Merrilyn and adult children Sarah, James (Sally), Robert and Emma (David) as well as grandchildren Owen, Sydney, Jade and Madison.
Neil was very active in various churches with the Alpha course and in missions and enjoyed sailing, running and playing hockey. Neil invested heavily in young people loving the stimulating conversations of the many university students who, for over 25 years, filled the house and shared dinner over bible study on Sunday nights. He served youth in any way possible at Camp Iawah over the last 22 years but is best known for helping Merrilyn in the infirmary or (much more fun!) Jim the head cook in the kitchen.
A Celebration Service of Neil’s life will be held at 11.00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27th, 2022 at Camp IAWAH, 304 IAWAH Rd., Godfrey, On. K0H 1T0
Donations to Camp Iawah would be much appreciated. https://iawah.com/donate/
