Shirley Pratt

Obituary of Shirley Eileen Pratt

Pratt, Shirl Bradley

March 21, 1931 – June 29, 2022

Shirl’s beloved partner of 70 years, Hugh Pratt, was holding her hand when she passed peacefully in Newmarket. Mom of Vicki Hoskin of Newmarket, Dave, Norm and Steve Pratt all of BC. Devoted Nan of 6, great Nan of 3.5 . Mom-in-law to Brenda, Doug, Kim and Marie-Claude. Sister of Beth Burega, sister-in-law of Bernice Wallace, Polly Bradley and Elaine Bradley.

Education was extremely important to Shirl. She was the first member of her family to graduate from university. She started teaching at age 18 and took courses during her life as a mom of 4 to complete a BA in 1976 and an M. Ed. from Queen’s shortly before retirement in 1985.

Travel was a huge part of Hugh’s and Shirl’s lives starting with camping trips around North America as a young family to international travel in later years. They spent 26 wonderful winters in Largo, Florida and 26 summers on Loughborough Lake.  Frequent family gatherings in BC built bonds.

Shirl was a 60-year member of the Crossroads Church community in Kingston.

Shirl’s grandchildren describe her as a trail-blazer, strong and loving.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday July 11 from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. at Kingston’s James Reid Funeral Home in the Reception Centre.  Words of Remembrance will be at 11.
