September 29, 2005 – June 17, 2022
On Friday, June 17, 2022, a random twist of fate took Dominic Joseph Moniz peacefully in his sleep.
Dominic was born an old soul with an insatiable zest for life. He was the most compassionate, empathetic loving person that I have ever met in my life. As a child he would see someone randomly on the street or in a building that looked sad and go up to them. He would look in his pockets for gum or a small gift to brighten their day. Failing that he would smile, that beautiful smile of his and try to hug them. More often than not the strangers would accept his hug and his smiles and look lighter as we left.
As a teenager Dominic struggled with some mental health issues as covid kept him home. His light needed the energy that could only come from his friends and people around him.
He loved his family and friends and brothers. He never saw any boundaries, if you were close to him, he called you brother or sister. If you were different in any way, he would just love you more. Never judgemental always accepting. A beautiful soul gone way too soon.
Dominic is the treasured son of Kristy Moniz (James Jardine) and Tony Moniz (Ashley Hollywood). Beloved grandson of Maria Moniz and the late Jose Moniz and Marilyn Moreland and the late Lloyd Moreland. Brother to Gabriel, Jacob and Isaac Moniz, Cole Kerlovich and Tavish Blakely. Dominic will be missed by his Aunts and Uncles; Robert (Kim), Duarte (Teri), Lucy, Victor (Laurie) Moniz, Nick (Krissy) Moreland, Ryan (Victoria) Curran, multiple cousins and many other relatives and friends.
The family will be accepting visitors at James Reid Reception Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd, on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. Please park and enter through the doors at the rear of the funeral home building. The family is hoping those visiting are willing to share a short story about Dominic. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Maltby Centre or Addiction Mental Health Services KFLA. If donations are done at the Funeral Home, they must be by cheque only. He would have wanted to help as many people as possible that were struggling like people that he loved.
