Obituary of Rene Lorraine Thibault

Rene Lorraine Thibault (nee Prunkl) passed away on Friday, June 17th 2022 at the age of 60 after a hard-fought battle with heart failure. She was the loving wife and best friend of Chris Thibault, with whom she shared 34 years of marriage. Though cut far too short, their life was full of happiness, laughter and adventure; a true partnership.

Born in Edmonton, Rene was the daughter of Joan Prunkl and the late Bill Prunkl. After graduating from the University of Alberta, she went on to have a successful career as a pharmacist, devoting her life to helping others and eventually specializing in mental health. In her work, as in her home life, she was known for her cheerfulness, leadership, intelligence, and compassion.

A true prairie girl, she grew up on a farm outside of Edmonton where her parents raised race horses. She was most at peace in the outdoors, whether skiing in the Rockies, hiking through the woods, or kayaking on a lake. She put her green thumb to good use in every home she lived in, always claiming that her plants grew so well because she made sure to speak to them.

She is survived by her husband and her two children, Kelsey and Jacques. She treasured family time above all else, and made sure that her children always knew that they were loved. Some of their favorite times were spent camping; wandering through the woods, building roaring campfires, and playing catch. Holidays were always full of delicious food and laughter sitting around the dining room table playing rummy and cribbage.

She took being a mother to be her most important role. She gave the best advice, the warmest hugs, and could make even the simplest day into an exciting and memorable adventure. She made every moment special and filled every cherished memory with her beautiful smile, her kindness, and unconditional love.

She will be remembered by all who knew her as a truly good and kind soul, who saw the good in everyone and found joy in everything. She showed strength, courage, and compassion right until the end.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 1:30pm at James Reid Funeral Home in Kingston. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation on her behalf.
