Born in Manhattan, raised in Darien, CT, member of St. Thomas More Church, Darien. Educated at New Canaan Country School, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, & The University of Michigan School of Law, Ann Arbor. Officer in the United States Navy, serving in the North Sea, Mediterranean, & Atlantic, instructor in naval law at Officer Candidate School, Newport, RI, attorney, advocate for the mentally ill, volunteer at the Queen's Clinical Learning Center, award-winning author, rescuer of abused dogs. Proud father of Hugh Nicholas (Dahlia Gross) of Toronto, loving grandfather of Matthew Ben, 16, & Will Nolan, 13, uncle of Leslie Smith, Sault Ste. Marie, Matthew Smith, Chicago, Mark Flatman, Peterborough, & Andrew Flatman, Edmonton, brother-in-law of Margaret Flatman. Cherished husband of Claudia Naomi. Donations in his memory, if desired, to the Napanee Humane Society. Claudia thanks the staff at Trillium Ridge for their gentle care of David during the last hours of his brave struggle with Parkinson's Disease, dementia, & bipolar disorder.
