Obituary of Alan Stuart Robertson
Alan Stuart Robertson
Professor Emeritus, Queen’s University
The Robertson family announces, sadly, that Alan passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 in his 86th year.
He will be sorely missed by his wife, Jan; his children, Phil (Donna), Karen (Dave) and Kevin (Krista); his 12 grandchildren; his first great-grandchild and many friends.
Fondly nicknamed “Grandpa Games”, Al delighted in challenging his family with games in water, snow, the backyard, or at the kitchen table. The “Fruits” and the “Veggies” went head to head in fierce, but friendly, competition. His home on Buck Lake provided the perfect setting for swimming, canoeing, waterskiing – so the kids were always eager to visit.
His love of nature and the outdoors took Al on many travels. He hiked down the Grand Canyon and up many mountains. His camera was always with him and he leaves a rich photographic legacy of his many adventures.
He was an avid golfer, skier, and canoeist. And he was game to try just about anything!
He taught young people for 33 years, wrote a number of books on health education, collaborated on 3 national health studies, and worked for WHO on programs for disadvantaged countries during the AIDS crisis.
A gathering of family and all who knew him for a Celebration of Al’s life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. There will be words spoken at 4:30 pm. Contributions to the UHKF (Cardiology) by those who wish would be appreciated by the family.
