Obituary of Clayton Trevor Elston
ELSTON, Clayton Trevor
B.Sc., Brandon University; M.Sc., University of Manitoba; Ph.D., University of Illinois
Passed away peacefully at St. Lawrence Lodge, Brockville on Monday, April 20, 2020, in his 93rd year. Clayton was born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Roberts) Elston. Loving father of son Robert (Kym) and daughter Laura, grandfather of Jennifer (Nick) and Clarke (Amy) and great-grandfather of Theo and Callum Elston. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews in Western Canada and the U.S. After graduating in Polymer Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1954, Clay and his wife Dorothy came to Kingston where Clay accepted a research position with Du Pont of Canada in their newly opened Research Centre. At the time of his retirement in 1992, Clay was a Research Manager responsible for Analytical Development at the Research Centre. Clay thoroughly enjoyed his career in research and often said, tongue in cheek, .."if they didn't pay me I would have done it anyway". Clay and Dorothy had been honored with Life Memberships in the Kingston Horticultural Society and enjoyed gardening in their city home and leisure time at their cottage on Gould Lake. Clay was also a longtime member of the Kingston Frontenac Rotary Club and served as President in 1992 and was Club Secretary from 1998 to 2005. The family extends sincere gratitude to all the staff at St. Lawrence Lodge for their exemplary care and compassion provided to Clay during his stay there. In accordance with his wishes, arrangements for cremation are in the care of JAMES REID CREMATORIUM. Clay's family will gather privately for the interment at Olivet Cemetery at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
