Obituary of Beth Marlene Simmons

Simmons, Beth Marlene (Betty),

RN (Registered Nurse), Horse and animal lover.

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Simmons on May 1, 2022 at Trillium nursing home in Kingston Ontario. Betty’s family was by her side, but it was time to join her beloved husband, Gordon Simmons who passed unexpectedly in 2011.

She will be forever remembered by her children; Steven, Sharon, Trent and his wife Johanne, her grandchildren; Daisy and her husband Jamie Chesson, Alexander, Harrison and his wife Sara, Mitchell, Tristan and Charlotte, and her great granddaughter, Stella Rose who never met Betty but will be told of “Nana’s” legacy in years to come, and Betty’s sister Elayne Morrison and brother Wendell Inman.

Betty’s passion and raison d’etre was her animals. She worked on her farm in Kingston Ontario mucking out every day, taking her Bernese Mountain dogs for walks in the back fields regardless of the weather, collecting eggs in the chicken coop, and of course giving the grandchildren chores that she would “inspect” once completed. She ran a tight ship (farm). Her CB handle at the cottage in Stanley River, PEI before telephone service was installed was “The War Department” which should tell it all.

Betty was an accomplished cook where amongst others, her Christmas Eve Seafood Chowder was an annual crowd pleaser looked forward to by family and friends every year. She laboured tirelessly making sure any entertaining event was planned to perfection and never expected any praise in return. She was just happy to see the admiring smiles and hear the full belly groans of satisfaction from her family and guests as they lounged back after a fantastic evening.

Nana, your legacy will endure. With love, give Pepe a big hug.

Donations in Betty’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Kingston Humane Society would be appreciated by her family.
