Jane meant the world to me and Sam. She started looking after Sam when he was only 5 months old when I had to return to work. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, leaving my baby with someone I barely knew, but she became part of our family. Jane was so much more than a childcare provider, she was treated Sam like a grandchild. There are so many memories to share like the ‘chip parties’ sending wishes to the stars when I couldn’t be there to say good night to Sam and given him cuddles when Jane took care of Sam while I was away at a conference. Sam remembers Jane taking him to a rink to skate (I don’t even remember these ones), going to the camp and eating the cucumbers Jane grew in their backyard. Besides the day-to-day events, Jane was also Sam’s beaver leader – ‘Bubbles’. She loved those kids so much and put so much energy into making it a wonderful experience. I will always cherish the quilted wall hangings she made for me, which hang every fall and Christmas in our log cabin in PEI. When we moved to California 12 years ago, Jane always kept in touch and wrote the most heartfelt of letters to let us know we were always in her thoughts. We will miss her but remember her fondly always.
All of love Cathy and Sam
