Obituary of Edward Alexander Gow

GOW, Edward Alexander “Ted”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ted Gow, at Rideaucrest Home on Thursday, April 14, 2022.

Ted, is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 63 years, Margaret Joan (nee Woods), and by his loving children John Gow (Elizabeth) and Catherine Hagerman (Timothy). He was the proud grandfather of Lindsay Van Zuylen (Kyle), Alexandra Hitchcock (Daniel) and Andrew Gow (Alyssa) and great-grandfather of Wells and Maeve Van Zuylen, Bennett Hitchcock and Hudson and Max Gow. He will be sadly missed by his brother Eckford Gow (Donna), sister-in-law Jennie Gray (Jim) and his many nieces and nephews.

Ted was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Up until his last days he spoke about all of his wonderful childhood memories and what it was like to grow up in Brazil. Later in life, Ted became a teacher and then Vice-Principal with the Limestone District School Board, where his past students would attest to his generous heart and amazing teaching skills, going out of his way and outside of school hours to make sure that his students were thriving.

Throughout Ted’s life he excelled in many things; skiing and golfing to name a few, making friends wherever he went.  He will be missed by the gang at the Amherstview Golf Course, and his great friends at 1000 King St., W.  His last year was spent at Rideaucrest Home.  The staff and caregivers there became part of his family giving him the most outstanding care possible, thank you.

In keeping with Ted’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the Celebration Centre of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., entering from the rear parking lot doors.  At the request of the family, mask wearing is mandatory for all guests.

For those who wish, donations in Ted’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of KFL&A and are greatly appreciated.
