Obituary of Mary Ann Currie
CURRIE, Mary Ann (nee Smith)
February 8, 1935 - April 11, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Ann Currie announces her passing. With her family by her side, Mary Ann passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022, at the Kingston General Hospital.
Mary Ann was born on February 8, 1935, in Kingston, Ontario, to Wilfrid and Elsie Smith (nee Root). Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, her brother Gordon Smith and her beloved husband of 60 years Donald Currie.
Mary Ann devoted her life to her family. She was a loving, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother (Nanny), and great-grandmother. Mary Ann is survived by her children Allyson Sills and David Currie, grandchildren Jeffrey Sills and Jennifer Laprade (Chris), great- granddaughter Thea Rose Laprade, and brother-in-law John Robertson.
Mary Ann grew up in the town of Napanee, Ontario. She lived in a loving home surrounded by immediate and extended family. Mary Ann learned at a early age the importance of caring for and supporting her family, her friends, and her church. She spent many happy years involved in the activities at Grace United Church. Mary Ann was a dedicated choir member and was often asked to sing solos at weddings.
Mary Ann was introduced to Donald, a young teacher who was boarding with her friends from church. The young couple married at Grace United Church in 1960 and moved to Kingston to begin their lives together and raise their family. For Mary Ann, being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother filled her heart. All were welcome in her home. Family and friends spent many happy times around the dining room table and enjoyed meals cooked with love. The table was always adorned with her special crystal, china and silver ware. While raising her family, Mary Ann gave many hours of her time to her children’s schools and to her church. Mary Ann touched the lives of everyone around her in many ways.
A celebration of life for Mary Ann and Donald is being planned in the near future. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada, and The Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.
