Peter Michael McLay
December 12, 1996 – March 31, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Peter McLay, age 25, following a lengthy struggle with cancer. He left this world peacefully with his family by his side. Peter was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer, at the age of 17. Despite this illness, Peter carried on with great courage and determination.
Peter is survived by his loving partner, Sarah Jory. Parents Michael and Sally McLay; sisters Sarah McLay and Heather McLay (David Pratt); grandparents James and Barbara Fitzgeorge (London, Ontario). He will be remembered by his aunts and uncles Margaret Allan (Mission Viejo, California), Robert and Carol Fitzgeorge (Woodstock Ontario), David and Angela Fitzgeorge (London, Ontario) as well as many cousins. Also remembered by the Jory family, Tom, Margo, and Kate. (London, Ontario). Predeceased by grandparents, James and Fay McLay, previously of London. Peter will be missed by all who knew him.
Peter was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. After moving to Kingston at the age of 8, he graduated from Lundy’s Lane Public School and LaSalle Secondary School. Peter loved sports and became an avid golfer, skier, hockey, and football player. Peter attended Camp Queen Elizabeth as a camper and counsellor where he enjoyed sailing, swimming, kayaking, canoe trips, and friends. Peter studied Mechatronics Engineering at Western University. He was on the Dean’s list each year despite ongoing cancer treatments.
We would like to thank the many excellent nurses, doctors and health care professionals who have been involved in Peter’s care over the past several years.

Visitation will take place at the James Reid Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00pm. Although capacity limits are no longer in effect, the family requests that all guests please wear a mask while attending the visitation or service.
