Obituary of James Westman Davidson

DAVIDSON, James

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of James Westman Davidson, 76, of Inverary, Ontario, on February 12, 2022 at Providence Care Hospital.

“Jimmer” as he was affectionately known, born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on November 30, 1945, was a professional engineer, and graduated from Queen’s University in 1970. At Queen's he met a nursing student, Donna Morrison, who would become his wife and best friend. His work history included jobs with TransCanada Pipelines, S.C. Johnson, and Purity Packaging. Jim retired in 2005 after a career of twenty-five years with Alcan. In 2006 he co-founded Black Diamond Engineered Products with his son and worked until 2021, fifteen years. Jim was a problem solver who would often step in and take on difficult and challenging projects both at work and at home. He especially loved coming up with practical Christmas gift ideas.

Jim and Donna raised their three children in Kingston, Ontario and eventually settled on Loughborough Lake. Jim enjoyed life to the fullest. His fondest memories have been summer months when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren at the lake, singing “Stand By Me” with friends and family, and his many trips to Vancouver.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Jim’s memory and legacy will live on with his loving wife of 50 years, Donna; his children, Julie (Moe); Michael ( Sherri); Carrie (Jeff); grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his two brothers, Peter (Shirley); and John (Pauline); cousin Donald Montgomery (Isabelle); Jane Davidson (Ian) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Kathleen (Barter) and Raymond Davidson, and cousin Robert Montgomery (Nellie).

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and health teams at KGH; the Cancer Centre, Emergency, Connell 3, and Kidd 10, Frontenac Ambulance Service, Providence Care Hospital; Heritage 2-Hospice Care, Home and Community Care Support Services South East, including CBI Home Health, St. Elizabeth Health Care and members of the Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion.

A private graveside service was held February 22, 2022 at Christ Church Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Blair Peever.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

Online condolences may be sent to James Reid Funeral Home.
