Obituary of Mary Marguerite Van Alstine
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary (“Rita”) Marguerite Van Alstine (Elener), in her 83rd year after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Arthur Harold Van Alstine. Loving mother of Christine Perrault, Karen Holton (David), Kimberly Cumpson (Joseph), Colleen Mullins (Calvin). Proud grandmother of Heather Lambert (Dave), Ryan Lambert, Keith Perrault (Lindsay), Melissa Cumpson, Robert Holton (Andrea), Amber Fox, Angela Cumpson (Jay), Christopher Holton (Brittany), Krystle Holton (Phil) and Michelle Mullins (Alex). Beloved great-grandmother, often referred to as “GG” to 26 great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother, William Guigue and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth Guigue, stepfather Kitchener, father Thomas Elener, sisters Florence (Betty) Gillespie, Maureen Hay, brother Freddy Guigue, great-grandsons Tyler Lambert and Blake Perrault.
Mary spent many years caring for others as a healthcare aide, then later served as a by-law officer for the City of Kingston. She enjoyed game nights, playing bingo, knitting, spending time with family & friends, cooking and baking. Mary doted on her fur babies Nicholas, Bigguy and Patches. She was a woman who told it like it was. Special thanks to Dr. Kondor for the expertise, support and guidance she provided to the family while caring for Mary in her home; to Pauline Dervette (case manager), Kathy (PSW), Delcia (PSW), Jocelyn (PSW) and SEHC nurses and PSW’s. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care Staff at Providence Care Hospital for their kind, gentle care during Mary’s last three days.
A private family visitation will be held in the coming days at the James Reid Funeral Home with cremation to follow. A graveside service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Glenburnie.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to UHKF - (Lung and Breast Cancer Research).
