Obituary of Marius Jan Vanderhout

Vanderhout; Marius “Maurice” – Passed away peacefully at Providence Care Hospital on January 25, 2022 at the age of 96, with Liliane, his wife of 57 years, at his side. He is survived by his loving wife Liliane (nee Stalder), children Judy LeSarge (John) and Pierre Vanderhout (Louise), grandchildren Jacqueline, Daniel (Amy) and Kristine (Jonathan) and his great-grandchildren Leah, Parker and Matteo. Maurice was predeceased by his first wife Ida Vanderbaaren in 1963 and his siblings Pleuna, Jack and Frits. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends in the Netherlands, Switzerland, U.S.A and Canada.

Marius served in the Dutch Underground during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. He later joined the Free Dutch Army, before emigrating to Canada in 1951. While playing professional soccer in the Hamilton area, he began working in the insurance industry. After being the Eastern Ontario manager for Concordia Life, he became an independent insurance broker. He retired in 1990 as the majority owner of the Vanderhout & Company Insurance Brokerage in Kingston. He volunteered extensively in local hockey and soccer organizations and coached the feared Kingston Township "Blue Machine" soccer team that dominated Eastern Ontario in the early 1980s. He also coached high school teams at Bayridge Secondary School and Q.E.C.V.I.

Marius was fully devoted to Liliane and took pride in the many accomplishments of his children and their families. He was also justly proud of his legendary vegetable garden. Shortly before his passing, Marius expressed his gratitude to his many friends in Canada, the Netherlands, and the rest of the world for their companionship over his long life.

Cremation has been entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home. Due to covid restrictions, there will be no service. Memorial donations can be made to U.H.K.F - Palliative Care Patient Comfort Fund or the Kingston Humane Society in Marius' honour.
