Obituary of Mae Elizabeth Dark
Mae Elizabeth Dark (McBride) October 3, 1927- January 7, 2022
Mae Elizabeth Dark (McBride) passed away peacefully at Trillium Care Community on January 7, 2022. She was 94 years.
Mae was the beloved wife for 67 years to the late Robert (1927-2017). She was the loving mother of the late Judith Elliott (1954-2012), Janice Tansey (Gordon), and son-in-law Peter Elliott (Cheryl Borg). Mae is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Brock (Corinna) of Bowmanville, Ashley (Will) of Perrysburgh, Ohio, Joel (Mai) of Osaka, Japan and Jonathan (Rutu) of Toronto. She was Great Nana to Ava, Blake, Georgia and Kaede.
Mae was born and raised in Kingston, where she lived on Colborne Street with her parents, Alexander and Elizabeth and four brothers Allistar, Ian, Donald and Harry McBride, all deceased. She was predeceased by sisters in law Connie, Doris and Betty. She is survived by one sister-in-law and good friend Joan McBride (Don). Mae has many nieces and nephews who will remember her with great love.
Mae and Bob married in Kingston in 1950 and soon after attended The Salvation Army Training College for Officers. They worked tirelessly as Pastors/Officers in Oakville and Bermuda. Upon returning to Kingston, Mae and Bob and their two young daughters moved to Point Pleasant, where many family members and friends enjoyed Mae, as a gracious and caring hostess combined with a wonderful sense of humour. Mae took pride in her work in administration at Dupont of Canada in the Research Department, where she worked for 30 years.
Mae served faithfully at the Salvation Army Kingston Citadel. She was a member of the Songsters (Church Choir) Home League (Ladies Group) and taught Sunday School. However, Mae had a real heart for her League of Mercy work and visited the Kingston General Hospital for many years on a weekly basis bringing joy and hope to the patients and staff there.
In retirement Mae and Bob enjoyed many happy winters in Clearwater, Florida. Mae always made friends wherever she went, always putting others first and always wanting to make sure people knew that they belonged in every situation.
Mae’s life represents her dedication to God, her family, friends and The Salvation Army. Her life is summed up in the words of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path”
Mae was a resident at Trillium Ridge for 7 years. Her family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Trillium Ridge. The kindness and professional service to Mae over the years has been exemplary. Each Staff member fulfills the mission statement of Trillium to provide “the warmth of human connection.”
A service in Celebration of Mae’s life will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Salvation Army Kingston Citadel, 816 Centennial Drive. Visitation will begin at 10:30 followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Service can be viewed on the Salvation Army Kingston Citadel Livestream Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/salvationarmykingstoncitadel/ or will be uploaded on Youtube following the service.
