Obituary of Lois Jean Grifferty

Grifferty, Lois Jean (Hartley)

At the age of 92, died peacefully on January 1, 2022 in her home at Waterford Retirement Home surrounded by family. She was born on May 30th, 1929, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Mabel and Ernest Hartley. She married her sweetheart Thomas Grifferty in 1952, after meeting at Penn State, and together they shared a love story for the ages.

Lois was a positive, loving and happy person. She described all of her life’s journeys in a poetic manor with such pride, joy and honour to have experienced life the way that she had. She was a beloved math teacher at KCVI, for over 20 years, who praised the importance of loving what you do for your career. She retired to spend countless winters with her husband in South Carolina, and summers on their sailboat, the Meghan Kristin.

She will be missed and remembered by her children, Thomas H. Grifferty (Carmen), John E. Grifferty (Sherri), David Grifferty (predeceased), as well as her grandchildren Meghan Manion (Chad), Kristin Bridge (Dan), Laura Wood (Matt), Marco Grifferty (Meredith), Jodi Colvin (Matt), Patrick Grifferty (Samantha), her great-Grandchildren, Hartley Bridge, Everett and Wyatt Manion, Hudson Wood, and Beatrix Grifferty, and her niece & nephew John and Ann Casbon. She looked forward to being reunited with her dear husband Tom, her son David Grifferty, and sister Audrey Cahill.

Lois and her family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff at The Waterford over the recent 10 years of her life.
