Obituary of John Kenneth Noble
John Kenneth Noble passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Friday, December 31, 2021 in his 95th year. Ken as he was known to family and friends was born June 13, 1927 to John A. Noble and Evelyn Bechtel in Kitchener, Ontario. His early education took place in Toronto and after high school he worked as a structural steel draftsman for 5 years. He attended Queen’s University and was awarded a BA (Honours) in 1955, MA in Philosophy in 1956 and through Emmanuel College he received a Bachelor of Divinity in 1959, Masters of Theology in 1968 and a Doctor of Ministry in 1987.
Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years Joan earlier in 2021. Together they were the proud parents of John, Thomas (deceased) and Ruth and the loving grandparents of Tom Noble-Sword, Tara Farrell (Chris) and Krystal Cline, and great-grandparents of Lauren and Nathan Farrell.
Ken was ordained by The United Church of Canada in 1959 and served at Rexdale United in Toronto, Trinity United in Schumacher, St Paul’s United in Brampton and Westminster United in Weston.
An early interest in teaching grew to an urgent call. Ken taught at Seneca College, Toronto for twenty-five years. His Dean called him a truly dedicated teacher, who prepared his courses with care and was a constant champion for the humanities in college education.
Ken loved to read and write on faith and spirituality, often leading study groups and enjoying time with family and friends.
The family will gather for a private Celebration of Life service at James Reid Funeral Home to be held on Saturday, January 8 at 12:00 noon. For those who wish to attend the service via livestream, please CLICK HERE to register.
