It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Nickel announce her passing. Mary died peacefully in her sleep, in the compassionate care of Trillium Community Care in Kingston on December 21, 2021. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Jack Nickel and dear daughter Barbara Jacobson. Cherished mother of Curtis (Karen) and Bruce (Mary Pat) and mother-in-law to Howard Jacobson (Heather). Special Grandma to Kyle (Michelle), Colin (Isabelle), Kaileigh (Dave), Kelsey (Andrew), Brooke (Jason), Abbey, Lee Ann and Richard. Great Grandma to Dawson, Chloe, Aiden, Kalla, Emilia, Bree, Cooper, Mark and Willa. She is predeceased by her brother John and sister Magdalena, survived by her sisters Katie and Irene, and her brother Victor (Mary). She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was born in Hungary and emigrated to Canada with her family in 1930. She was the daughter of John Beischlag and Magdalena Himpelman. She became a Canadian citizen in 1948 and enjoyed visiting, traveling, camping and eating with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Due to Covid restrictions, a memorial service for Mary will be held on a later date at James Reid Funeral Home. Mary’s ashes will be buried alongside Jack at the Cataraqui Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF) - Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario.
