OVENS, Shirley Jean (Gilmour)
Shirley passed peacefully on Friday Dec 3 2021 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband Bill married for 67 years and her loving parents Bill and Sylvia Gilmour and brother Phillip. She is survived by her dear sisters Gloria (Jack) Connolly, Mickey Lorene Murray and brother-in law Jim (Joyce) Ovens.
Dear mother of David (Debbie) Ovens, Lorna (Tom) Thorne, John (Judy) Ovens. Loving Grandma of Devon (Meaghen) Thorne, Lisa Ovens, Sarah (Mark) Stoute, Andrew (Shannon) Thorne, Alex Thorne. Great Grandma of Quinn Stoute, and Cosette Thorne.
Shirley taught Kindergarten in her home for 10 years and also taught at Kingscourt, J.R.Henderson, Welborne and Polson Park. Over her 30 years teaching career she touched the lives of many children in the Kingston area. In her retirement she enjoyed painting, traveling, camping and spending time with her grandchildren. Thank you to the staff at both Conservatory Pond and Briargate Retirement Homes for the excellent care Mom received.

A service will be held in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston at 1:00pm on Sunday December 12th 2021. There will be visitation at 12:00pm prior to the service with a reception held in the Reception Center at 2:00pm. A private family burial will be held. Covid protocols will be in effect, proof of vaccination, valid ID and masks are required to enter. The service will be livestreamed for those that wish to attend virtually.
