KENNY, Eleanor Joan

(1933-2020)

It is with great sadness that the family of Eleanor Joan Kenny announce her passing on March 20th at Rideaucrest Home, with family by her side.  Beloved wife of the late Wilfred W. Kenny (predeceased in 1993), loving mother of Michael (Pamela) of Kingston, step-mom to John of Hamilton and forever “El” to grandchildren Rebecca (Karel), Elizabeth, Amy (Mark) and great grandmother to Isabella (4) and Logan (1).  Daughter of the late Merton and Ione (Younge) Mellow.  Dear sister of Helen Robinson (the late Bev) of Kingston, Paul Mellow (the late Elizabeth) of North Bay.  Predeceased by brother Hubert “Mel” Mellow (Vera) of Ottawa, Harvard “Harv” Mellow (Barb) of Lively, Ontario, and sister Catherine.  She will be sadly missed by loving nieces and nephews.  Eleanor was classy, elegant and known for her beautiful, sarcastic sense of humour.  Born and raised in Bath, she moved to Kingston after graduating from BCS.  There she attended the Kingston Business College and after graduation landed her first job at Abramsky’s Department Store.  Her next job was at the Kingston P.U.C. where she met Wilf.  After giving birth to the most beautiful baby of 1960, she returned to the workforce; and in 1974 started with the Kingston Police Force as a Computer Operator and Dispatcher, and would later become a CPIC Instructor.  She retired in 1997 and is a Lifetime member of the Ontario Police Association.  The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and support staff at Rideaucrest Home for the compassionate care that Eleanor and the family received and especially for their dedication, commitment, and courage during the COVID-19 lockdown.  In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes cremation has taken place.  Due to present circumstances a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  For those who wish, donations in Eleanor’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
