Obituary of Gerald Patrick Morris
Gerald Patrick MORRIS
June 13, 1939 to November 16, 2021
Emeritus Professor of Biology, Queen’s University, Kingston
Gerald Patrick Morris (Gerry) passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021. After suffering with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s this past eight years it was a blessing. He leaves behind Margaret, his lover, wife, and friend of 57 years; his children Kathryn (Stephen Boos) and Sean (Juliann McDonell), whom he loved dearly and was immensely proud of; his cherished grandchildren Arlo, Noelle, and Alexandra; and his much loved sister Judy Peterson.
Gerry felt privileged to have a career doing what he loved. His teaching and research brought him great joy and he was so very proud of his graduate students who are now scattered across the country.
After retiring he had many adventures. He climbed mountains, swam in oceans, walked through deserts, and explored jungles. He travelled to Burma and Thailand with Kathryn and journeyed through Peru and the Amazon with Sean. At 70 he learned to surf in Mexico, Hawaii, and Tofino. He walked the Camino across northern Spain; hiked the slot canyons of Arizona and the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal and Burma; scuba dived in Belize, Australia, Hawaii, and B.C.; and kayaked through Haida Gwaii. Closer to home, he spent many quiet hours fishing on Devil Lake.
Our special thanks go to Dr. John Puxty and Linda and to Dr. Thomas Curry for their care throughout the years; to the ambulance attendants who moved Gerry so carefully; and especially to the staff on Connell 9 who made his last days so comfortable.
In accordance with his wishes, Gerry has been cremated. There will no service or visitation. In memoriam donations may be made to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation or a charity of your choice.
