Obituary of Elizabeth June Halliday

HALLIDAY, Elizabeth June (nee Laidlaw)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mum, Elizabeth Halliday (Bette) on March 13th, 2020 in her 97th year.  Bette was predeceased by her parents George and Elvie Laidlaw (nee Rector), her sister Josephine, her beloved husband of 53 years Robert (Bob), and her eldest son William (Bill). Her love will be greatly missed by her children Robert (Lynn) and Barbara (Gord).  Bette was the loving Grandma of Ryan, Randi-Lynn (Scott), Joan (Andy), William (Laura), Brendan (Steph), Lesley (Justin) and Graham (Cecilia), and Grandma to step-grandchildren Sandra, Jamie and Crystal.  Also Great Grandma to Eric, Carson, Julianna, Gavin, Maddie, Ethan, Hunter, Robbie, Maggie, Winter, Jack, Cameron and Remi.  Mrs. Halliday will be remembered with love by Suzanne Copeland, a long time friend of our family.
Bette was born in Halifax and moved with her family to Toronto as a young girl. She fell in love with our Dad, Bob and they married and settled in Port Credit and raised 3 kids together. Bette delivered Avon door to door in the 1960s while caring for the kids and keeping a clean and welcoming home with a very well tended garden.  They lived in the same house for 53 years before Dad passed away and Mum moved to Kingston, Ontario.
Mum was known for being VERY organised having never missed an occasion to remember birthdays and anniversaries. She was passionate about cooking for her family, as well as family trips. She and Dad also enjoyed taking trips and cruises into their retirement.  Mum was always eager to help with whatever needed to be done, not the least of which was babysitting her much loved grandchildren for a few hours or a few days. After moving to Kingston, Bette volunteered at Hotel Dieu Hospital and spent many hours knitting and crocheting items that she donated to a women's shelter. Bette never missed a chance to get together for euchre, cribbage or to spend time with family, friends and neighbours.
Mum lived a full life, saw many changes in the world during her time and will be remembered for her generosity and always pleasant demeanor. Mum welcomed everyone that came into her life with an open heart and was fiercely devoted to her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than helping people. She will be missed and always remembered with love, happiness and appreciation. A celebration of life will be held at a date yet to be announced.
Thank you to Extendicare Kingston for the hard working and helpful staff that cared for Mum.  In remembrance of Bette, donations may be made to the SPCA.
