Obituary of Eldon John McClement

McCLEMENT, Eldon John

Eldon passed away on October 26, 2021, peacefully at home, at the grand age of 95.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Marion, his son Doug (Caroline), granddaughters Megaera and Molly, and his daughter, JoAnne (Rob) Armstrong. Also survived by his sister Florence Berard and nieces and nephews. Eldon was predeceased by his parents, John and Fannie McClement, sister Blythe Allen and brother Howard McClement.

Eldon grew up on a farm in Pittsburgh Township and moved to Kingston as a young man. He was employed as a Kingston bus driver for 15 years and then worked for Wilmot’s, working his way up from a driver to plant manager and later for Brookside Dairy until he retired.

After retirement, Eldon bought a motorcycle and for two decades enjoyed many trips throughout Canada and the States with Marion and a great group of fellow cyclists. He also was happy to spend some of his retirement time maintaining the lawns at Cookes-Portsmouth United Church.

Eldon was an avid hockey and baseball fan and spent many Friday nights at the Kingston Memorial Centre, and later the K-Rock Centre cheering on his beloved Frontenacs. He loved listening to country music and took great delight in dancing with Marion to big band swing. Eldon and Marion also enjoyed many cruises in their retirement years.

He was a wonderful husband and father, and set a great example for his children and grandchildren. Eldon was a gentle, kind man with a heart of gold. He valued good conversations with friends. A fitting way to honour his memory would be to have a visit with a friend or relative.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of James Reid Funeral Home. A private service for immediate family will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021.
