Obituary of Sheila Gwendolyn "Gwen" Potts (nee Cameron)
Peacefully on Friday October 1, 2021, Gwen passed away in her 85th year after a brief illness at Kingston Health Science Centre with her loving family by her side.
Reunited with her late husband Reg of 61 years. Cherished mother of Clayton (Evonne) and Darlene Potts-Edwards (Roy). Gwen was a loving, proud grandmother to 5 adoring grandsons, Justin (Roxanne), Jamie Badgley, Jordan, Joshua Badgley and Jarred and a much loved “GG” to her two beautiful great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Samuel. Sadly, she will miss the birth of her third great-grandchild but thanks to nurses Emily and Emma who assisted her in a private gender reveal, "GG" has entered heaven knowing the secret . Shhhh, no one else knows.
Predeceased by her parents Jack and Mabel Cameron, brother Laurie Cameron (Greta), and sister Barbara Davidson (George), and brother-in-law Dick (Gladys). Lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Greta Cameron, Brenda Sigouin (Art) and Marie Pinner (Bob). She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Gwen grew up on a farm in Westport, Ontario. She was a dedicated employee for over 20 years with GMAC and an additional 20+ years at Richvale York (Formerly Marker Building Materials and Lafarge) until her retirement. She loved to spend weekends at her cottage on Knowlton Lake. During summer months, the minute she stepped in the door on a Friday night after work - out came the coolers and suitcases filled with everything we could possibly need for 2 nights, then stopped on our way to pick up Chinese Food for a late dinner. If you were to peek in on a Friday or Saturday evening, you may see a few adults dancing in the living room to some tunes. Gwen loved to waltz with her handsome husband Reg to Charlie Rich songs, ‘The Most Beautiful Girl’ and Behind Closed Doors. After she retired she enjoyed spending more of the summer months at the lake with Reg. Truly a proud, fun-loving mom, she welcomed our friends for sleepovers at the cottage from the time it was built in 1968 and again with her grandchildren’s friends. Everyone enjoyed her amazing meals, sense of humour and caring nature. She really was the heart of the family.
Gwen was a great advocate for her local Colorectal Group. She gained many new friendships while attending Sunday services and volunteering at the weekly luncheons at Westbrook United Church. She looked forward to monthly get togethers with her “Breakfast Club” friends and continued with everlasting friendships from her younger years.
Gwen was so grateful for all the cards, calls and well wishes she received from friends and family over the past couple of months.
We would like to thank the nurses and support staff on Connell 9 who cared for our mother over the past few weeks and extend our gratitude to Program Manager Emily McMillan for listening to our concerns and acting on them in a caring and respectful way. Our family will never forget registered nurse Jacob who showed so much compassion and kindness to our mom and family in her final hours.
The family would like to invite you to join them for a Graveside Service at Cataraqui Cemetery on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 12:30pm. All are welcome to join, however attendance must be confirmed. Please call James Reid Funeral Home at 613-544-3411 between the hours of 9am – 4pm to RSVP.
As expressions of sympathy, (in lieu of flowers) donations may be made to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation Cancer Centre or to the local Heart and Stroke Foundation in Gwen’s name, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
