Obituary of Gary William Cox

Gary Cox (A.K.A. Crow) passed away peacefully on September 15, 2021. Gary will be missed by his children Tracey Lloyd (Ian) and Bill Cox (Mandy); his grandchildren Brandon, Rhys, Ruby and Abby; his brother Brian (Patti), and his nephews Chris Cox (Christa) and Ben Cox (Lauren). He is remembered by Joanne. Gary was predeceased by his parents Bill and Laura Cox and his beloved grandparents Carl and Florence Maxwell.

Gary was a fiercely proud Kingstonian.  His early love of hockey blossomed and he forged many of his life-long friendships on the ice.   A highlight was being a member of the 1961 Kingston Midget all-Ontario championship team.

Gary enjoyed and took great pride in working for Bell Canada for 30 years.  After retirement from Bell, he started his own company Gary Cox Communications where he provided services to school boards and other institutions.

Gary then embarked on a West Coast adventure, moving to North Vancouver to enjoy precious time with his children and grandchildren and inevitably making more friends along the way. Eventually Kingston called and Gary returned to his roots, reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and calling the city home again for the past decade.

The current COVID restrictions have asked us all to redefine how we honour our loved ones. Please consider honouring Gary in one of the following ways:  Go for a skate at a local rink; support a minor hockey team; cheer for the Montreal Canadiens – even in their worst moments; grab a beer at your favourite watering hole; go for a road trip or a drive; enjoy some good local corn with lots of butter and salt; take your grandchild for a walk; play a competitive game of euchre; or take a relaxing afternoon nap. Most of all, honour Gary by reflecting his positive qualities back to others by being open, friendly, and kind: Pass it forward.

Donations in Gary’s name can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Kingston Humane Society,

or the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

The family sends its heartfelt thanks for the kindness and support shown to our father by Dr. Marinovich and the KGH Connell 10 staff.

There will be a private family service at Lillies Cemetery.  Once Covid restrictions are lifted, we will have a larger celebration of life.
