Obituary of Elizabeth Maitland Montgomery

Montgomery, Elizabeth Maitland – Born in Wormit, Scotland on August 10,1925 and died in Kingston, Ontario on September 5, 2021.  Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Rose-Gordon, she was predeceased by her husband Gordon Hudson Montgomery and her brother George Rose-Gordon.  Survived by her children Robert Montgomery and Anne Montgomery.

After growing up in Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina, she entered McGill University, Montreal, Canada.  While pursuing her graduate studies, she met and married Gordon.

Throughout her life, she actively promoted women’s rights and advancement through the Canadian Federation of University Women and served as president of the Kelowna and Vancouver chapter of the CFUW.

Following Gordon’s retirement, they moved to Kingston, Ontario, where she continued to participate in community group, taught French and participated in language groups and travelled extensively.

The family would like to thank the Queens’ Palliative Care Unit and ParaMed for their care and assistance.

A private funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church on October 2, 2021 at 1 p.m.   A Celebration of Life and reception will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
