Obituary of Nixon "Burke" Breen

BREEN, Nixon "Burke"
July 30, 1923 - March 8, 2020

At KGH on Sunday, March 8th,  Burke in his 97th year passed away peacefully and on his own terms.  He was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.  He served in WW II as a Navigator in a Group Heavy Bomber Command flying Lancasters out of England - returning home 1945.

After the war he went to the University of Saskatoon graduating as a mechanical engineer.  He worked with various companies before joining ALCAN (lab division) in 1959 and staying there until retirement.  

Burke was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy (nee Elliot-Murray) on January 26, 2020 and by son David in November of 1977, youngest daughter Kim on Easter Sunday of 1979, and his sister Miriam Hillier in July 2016.  He is survived by daughters Marina (Joe) Stenson, Lesley (John) Woodland and son Brent (Jocelyne).  Also grandchildren Stacey (Brad) Parkin, Sara (Ryan) Smith, Stephanie (David) Vincent, David Woodland, JohnRoss (Kate) Woodland, Joel Breen, Taylor Breen, and great-grandchildren Carter and Chloe Parkin, Jacob, Lucas and Emma Smith, Jacob, Zachary and Claire Vincent, Sophia and Madison Woodland.  

Cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Reception will be held in the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, RECEPTION AND CELEBRATION CENTRE, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Monday, March 16 between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, with Words of Remembrance at 3:00 pm spoken by Pastor Dale Lloyd. (Please enter the Reception Centre from the rear parking lot).  As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society or Kingston Christian Fellowship would be appreciated by the family.
