Obituary of Juanita June Barrett
Barrett, Juanita June – Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on August 2, 2021. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years; Harry Barrett and her 4 adored children Suzanne Powell (Brian), Kerry Slaughter (Art), Michelle Vesey (David), and Tracy Walton (Jack). Juanita was the cherished Grandma and Nana to grandchildren: Gavin, Graham, Arthur, Matthew, Eric, Sean, Claire, Ian, Kerry, Shannon, and Ashley Allen, and great-grandchildren: Veronica and Callie. Juanita’s sisters in heart include cousins Jeannette, Glenda, Sandy, June, and Patti.
Juanita will be remembered for her feisty, passionate, and generous character. She was an active volunteer her entire life – most recently serving in many roles at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Parish Synod rep, serving at “Lunch by George”, and as a proud member of PROBUS Retiree Club. In earlier years she was a Deputy Mayor, school board trustee, Girl Guide Commissioner, a Brown Owl, and a lunch lady. In her professional career she was a Real Estate Agent and served on the Ottawa Real Estate Disciplinary Board.
Juanita was a true go-getter and was up for anything. She had a love of adventure, happily moving to multiple postings in Canada, France, and Germany. This passion continued in the years that followed as she and Harry embarked on multiple trips and cruises abroad.
Juanita’s integrity was fierce. She was stylish, had a quick wit, and did not shy away from sharing her thoughts. She instilled in all of her girls the notion that they could do and be whatever they set their minds to, providing they were willing to work for it. Juanita will be truly and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
