SHAULE, Elroy William
Elroy passed away peacefully at the age of 85, on April 27, 2021 at Providence Care Hospital.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Rosemary (nee Russell), and loving father to Chris (Sherry) and Eric (Rose) of Mississauga and proud grandfather of Chad, Britt, Blair, Jenna and Thomas.
Born on September 2, 1935 in Thessalon, Elroy was the 2nd of 3 sons and was predeceased by his parents Erle and Bertha (nee Polfuss) and his brothers Calvin and Arlo.
Elroy was raised on a farm in Bruce Mines, and moved to Sault Ste Marie after high school where he worked and studied to become a Chartered Accountant (1960). He moved to Toronto, where he met and married Rosemary. They moved to Aurora and started a family and then to Peterborough where Elroy was employed at the Peterborough Examiner. He was transferred to Kingston, where he became the Secretary-Treasurer of the Whig Standard until his retirement. He continued as a sole-practitioner accountant until he was 81.
Elroy and Rosemary enjoyed travelling and seeing Canada and the United States and took yearly family trips with their sons. Later in life they wanted to see more of the world and were fortunate to enjoy trips to Europe, Scandinavia and Russia. They resided in Kingston surrounded by great neighbors that became lifelong friends and hosted an annual neighbourhood Christmas open house.
Elroy enjoyed golfing with the Whig Standard alumni and Frontenac hockey games. His greatest joy was engaging with his grandchildren whom he was enormously proud of.
Elroy was patient and kind with a gentle soul and a beacon of stability. He will be deeply missed. We were blessed to have him in our lives.
