Marjorie Leah (Mardi) Anderson (nee MacIvor)

Beloved wife of John William (Jack) Anderson, loving mother to Mimi (Wolfgang Hofmann) and Howard (Carolyn Ryder). Proud and caring Grandma to Bronwyn (Ollie d’Agostino) and Duncan (Jamie Smith).
Predeceased by Jack in 2014, and by siblings June (Ed) Rose, Charlotte (Joe) Graham, Barbara (Jim) Nesbitt, Betty MacIvor, Mollie (Harry) Laird, Don (Kathi) MacIvor, and Murray MacIvor. Survived by Jack’s sister Margaret (Alec) Masters. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Ruth and Mary Anderson. As a member of a large and extended family, Mardi is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she often remembered, and spoke of with love.
Born and raised at “the Beach” by parents Wylie Graham MacIvor and Eliza Campbell (Carr) MacIvor, Mardi attended Balmy Beach Public School and Malvern Collegiate, always at or near the top of her class.
Mardi took on the role of family matriarch, bringing family and friends together. She was famous for her dinner parties, family gatherings, pioneering spirit at the cottage, and operating the Albury Shore B&B with her unique flair.
Mardi knew Jack growing up at the Beach, and got serious around 1950 when working at Lever Brothers in Toronto. They married in 1952 and embarked on 62-year marriage, lovingly raising her family in Birchcliff before retiring to “the County,” and latterly to Kingston, Ontario. Mardi and Jack were active at Kew Beach United Church through their years in Toronto, becoming engaged in their new communities after retirement to eastern Ontario. Mardi particularly enjoyed broadening her education through later life learning at Queen’s University. She was thrilled at the arrival of her grandchildren, Bronwyn and Duncan, and was so proud of their successes and achievements.
Special thanks to the caring and dedicated staff at Arbour Heights Long Term Care Home in Kingston, and Briargate Retirement Home in Amherstview, Ontario, where Mardi enjoyed her years after Jack’s passing.
A celebration of life will be held in Toronto as soon as we can gather, raise a glass of sherry, and share stories. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
