“OUR KIDS”
I remember my wife, Patti, asking me one time in the fall, “What do you and Erling talk about in the duck blind all morning.” I replied, “Well, at first we strategize on the morning hunt, and when that fails, we cover just about every current event and global problem there is to talk about.”
One topic that gets talked about the most is our kids. In the hundreds of hours, I have had the pleasure to spend with him, either in the duck blind, Double Duff Hunt Camp or chasing spring gobblers; that topic was the most popular of all.
Erling and I are both fathers so we always chatted about our kids, Miranda, Matthew and Emily and how they were dealing with this thing called life. What always struck a chord in me was the way Erling spoke of his children. I could always hear the sincerity in his voice as we chatted. Erling was extremely proud of his children and the accomplishments they have achieved through the years.
As the years have gone by, it’s like we have listened to each other’s children grow up and become fine adults. I will miss those conversation immensely.
To Miranda, Matthew and Trish I pass on my condolences for your great loss.
