Yves Bernier

Obituary of Yves Robert Bernier

BERNIER, Yves Robert

1946-2021

With love and sadness his family shares the news that Yves passed away peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday March 6th at the age of 74.

A resident of Kingston for most of his life, Yves was born in McMasterville, Québec.  He had a lifelong love of music and as a young man was a member of the Armed Forces’ Vimy Band.  Yves spent most of his career as a social worker assisting children and youth at Sunnyside Children's Centre and then Pathways, where many were touched by his caring, warm-hearted approach.  He loved a good story and could himself hold an audience in thrall. He also expressed his creative side through writing, drawing and woodworking.  He had a spiritual and optimistic outlook on life and was known for his sense of humour – indeed, he was still cracking jokes in the hours before he died.

Yves will be remembered with love by his son, André (Amanda), grandchildren Thomas and Eric, and siblings Colette, Jean-Marie, Paul and Rolande.  He was predeceased by his son D’Arcy, who was always in his heart and who Yves knew would be waiting for him.  Yves was grateful for the enduring friendship of D’Arcy’s mother, Leslie Saunders.  He thought often of his dear sisters, Cécile, Marcel, Micheline and Suzanne, who left before him. He will be missed by Megan Reid, who was like a daughter to him.  Many others were touched by his life, including friends, former colleagues and neighbours.

In keeping with Yves’ wishes and with Covid-19 restrictions, a celebration of life has been deferred.

Donations to a charity in Yves' memory, in particular one assisting children and youth, would be kindly appreciated.
