Obituary of Sean Martin O'Connell
O’CONNELL, Sean Martin
January 1, 1956 – February 21, 2021
It is with great sorrow we announce the very sudden passing of Sean O’Connell on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Loving and devoted husband of 41 years to Sylvia (nee Perry), loving father to Dan (Cassandra) and cherished grandson Leland. Sean was predeceased by his parents Kate (Kit) and Jim O’Connell and sister Helen (John). He will be sadly missed by his sisters Mary (Rob), Kathleen (Terry), brother Kevin (Mel) and many nieces and nephews who all reside in England. He will remain in the hearts of all his “Canadian” brothers and sisters in-law and their families, as well as friends, the “Fleet Street neighbors” and former co-workers at Canpar and Loomis.
Sean came to Canada in September 1979 with Sylvia, who resided in England at the time, for a holiday and whilst here they decided to get married with only 4 days preparation. Everything went perfectly. Sean then decided Canada was the place he wanted to spend the rest of his life and so Sean, Sylvia, and Danny took up residence in Gananoque in December 1981 and then moved to Kingston in 1984 until present.
He began his 34 year courier career with Canpar in April 1983 and then 3 years with Loomis as a warehouse worker until March 2020 when he retired to enjoy some much deserved relaxation. He has been enjoying his free time golfing with his son and friends, driving his yellow mustang, doing some woodworking projects, “puttering” in the garage and spending time with his grandson.
In keeping with Sean’s wishes, friends will be received at a celebration of his life, on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston. COVID protocols will be in effect and mask wearing is mandatory.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Sean’s memory may be made to the ALS Society or a charity of your choice.
