ARMSTRONG, Barbara Louise (nee James)
1931 - 2020
Surrounded by the love of her family, at Briargate Retirement Residence, on January 10, 2020 at the age of 88.
Predeceased in 1985 by her loving husband Harold Armstrong. Beloved mother of Lois Armstrong, Carol Vanderhelm (Neil) and William Armstrong (Joanna). Adored grandmother of Mark Vanderhelm (Robyn), Sarah Vanderhelm (Rob Sherman), Lucy Harris (Martin), Christopher Armstrong and Jacqueline Armstrong and cherished great grandmother of Simon, Myles, Graham and Anna. Dear daughter of the late Kathryn (nee Closson) and F. Stanley James and sister of the late Frederick James (Frances), William James (Carolyn), and Robert James (Sandra).
Barbara's selfless dedication to her family and her church were the touchstones of her life. Her hands were always busy sewing, crocheting, knitting, reading a good novel or playing the piano. She instilled a love of music in many of her young piano students.
Barbara was active with the Queen's Faculty Women's Club for many years and enjoyed French conversation, cross-country skiing and international dining groups. She liked driving, whether it was on a good road trip or as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Barbara loved creating special memories with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treated everyone in her life with gentleness and kindness.
The family extends their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Briargate Retirement Residence for their compassionate care of Barbara in her final days.
Funeral services to be held at ST. JAMES' ANGLICAN CHURCH, 10 Union St. W., Kingston, on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Visitation 9:30 am - 10:45 am, funeral at 11:00 am with reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Private family interment at a later date.
