Obituary of Mike Barker

BARKER, Donald James (Mike) July 23, 1936 – December 29, 2019 One of the good guys The family is sorry to announce the death of a truly great man at the Kingston General Hospital. Predeceased by parents Ed and Sarah Barker of Marlbank, in-laws Laura Revelle, Ken Selman and their son David, siblings Frank (Mary), Florence (Harold and their son Scott) and nephew Rod. Left to forever remember him with love are his wife of 59 years Sharon, son David, his beloved “Babby” granddaughter Caelan, her mother Deb (Marvin), and grandmother Esther and family. Survived by siblings Wes (Dorothy), Marion (Don), Doug (Carol) and their families. Extended family Karen and Steve Saunders and their families. Dear to him are the “children of his heart” Lorraine and Dawn, Andréa and Emily, Jessie, Mara and Leah and their families. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Drs Goldstein, Bhella, Lee, Boyd and Smith. Our heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at the cancer centre, reception, blood room and especially the compassionate nurses and volunteers in the chemo room who made the last three years a time of laughter, friendship and support, as well as the nurses in the stroke unit and Kidd 10 who are an exceptional group of people. In keeping with Mike’s wishes cremation has taken place. For those wishing to donate in Mike’s memory, please consider becoming a blood donor or contributions to the U.H.K.F. (Cancer Centre at KGH, Chemo Room). There will be an informal drop-in on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 1-4 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, Celebration and Reception Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd., (please enter from the rear parking lot doors). No tears please, just laughter and fond memories.
