Obituary of Gerhard Wilhelm Bonner

BONNER, Gerhard (Garry) W.
The Bonner Family announces with great sadness the loss of their beloved father, Garry, in his 89th year, on December 8th, 2019.

Garry leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Norma, and their three children, Rick (Kim) Bonner, Terry (Scott) McKever, Wendy (David) Beauchamp.  Garry is also survived by seven doting grandchildren, Chelsea (Brian), Jacqueline (Matt), Matthew, Sarah, Megan, Katie (Darren), Lindsy, and his four cherished great-grandchildren, Layla, Jace, Lennon and Frankie.  Also missing Garry is his dear nephew, Walter Bonner, in Vienna, Austria.

Garry was born in Vienna on July 2, 1931 and immigrated to Canada in August 1951.  Garry worked passionately with the Austrian International Club, the Austrian Canadian Council, and the Kingston and District Folk Arts Council.  Many may share memories of Garry through his affiliations with the Masonic Centre of Kingston and the Kingston District Shriners.

Garry's contributions to his community and homeland were recognized by the Order of Merit in Gold from the Republic of Austria, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, the Austrian Canadian Council's Gold Medal, and the Gold Pin of the World Organization - Austrians Abroad.

Garry was at his happiest watching his family grow, dancing with Mom in the kitchen, building in his woodworking shop, sharing stories over a bottle of wine, seeing the world through travel, and remaining in life-long touch with his family, home and country.

The family would like to thank the staff at Trillium Retirement Centre in Kingston for the exceptional care and comfort given to Garry over the past year.
