Obituary of Shirley Edell Smith

SMITH, Shirley Edell
August 25, 1939-November 17 2019
Peacefully at home on Sunday, Shirley Edell Smith (nee Parker) at the age of 80. Devoted wife of almost 61 years to Gale K. Smith. Beloved mother to Stephen (Linda) Smith, Christoper Smith, and Matthew (Karen) Smith. Loving grandmother to Russell and Erin. Predeceased by her parents, Frederick James Parker and Susannah May Parker (Hawley), and her brother, George Parker. Shirley lived her life by a simple motto: "no compromise." She had fierce convictions and was a strong and determined woman even in the face of adversity. She believed in the power of love and family. Shirley enjoyed a good party but was at her happiest at family gatherings, and spending time with her two grandchildren whom she adored beyond everything, and of whom she was incredibly proud. She was also extremely proud of her six decades of marriage to Gale, to whom she was his equal - and his everything. In addition to her immediate family, Shirley leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her warm smile and soft spoken kindness. Family and friends will be received at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, (1900 John Counter Boulevard), on Thursday, November 21 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm.  Funeral service at THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE, (corner of King and Johnson Streets) on Friday, November 22 at 1:00 pm.  Cremation will be followed by inurnment at Riverside Cemetery in Napanee in the spring. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to St. George's Cathedral in Shirley's memory.
