Obituary of Herman Wesley Holden
Herman Wesley Holden, 89, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2019, in Hobe Sound, Florida, following a brief illness. He is now safe in the arms of Jesus, rejoicing with his wife, Freda, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a beloved granddaughter, Janette Joy Durham. He is survived by his children, a daughter, Gwen (John) Wilson of Joplin, Missouri, son Wesley (Debbie) Holden of Hobe Sound, Florida, and daughter Heather (Edward) Durham, of Budapest, Hungary, grandchildren Daniel (Rachel) Wilson, Elizabeth (Justin) King, Andrew (Evan) Wilson, Charles (Kristen) Holden, Bethany (Trevor) Plummer, and Alicia (Paul) McIntyre, and great-grandchildren Alexandra, Holden, Jordan, Jennae, Joelle, Julianne, Abbygail, Emma, Darren, Kyle and Zane. He is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Reid, Norma Smith, and Beth Hawley, as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He was born to John Wesley and Ada Rollins Holden in Madoc, Ontario, on September 21, 1930. He married Freda Victoria Aylesworth on May 8, 1954. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her death on July 16, 2011.
Herman was well-known for his big heart, willing to help anyone in need unselfishly. His smile, sense of humor, loving spirit, and kindness will be missed by all who knew him. He was an avid hunter and had many stories of his days in the hunting camp. He was fun-loving and had an adventurous spirit. He had a strong faith, contributing to the founding of the Kingston Pilgrim Holiness Church as a charter member, and participating in worship at Hobe Sound Bible Church after moving to Hobe Sound, Florida in 2011.
Family and friends will be received at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 Counter Boulevard, Kingston, Ontario, on Wednesday, November 20th from 6 – 9 pm. The memorial service will be held at the Kingston Pilgrim Holiness Church, 2900 Princess Street, Kingston, Ontario, on Thursday, November 21st at 10:00 am. Interment at the Cataraqui Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
