Obituary of Margaret Hope Cruickshank

CRUICKSHANK, Margaret Hope
January 19,  1909 - October 14, 2019
Died peacefully and quietly, in her 111th year with members of her family at her bedside.
In 1913, four year old, Margaret, with her three sisters, Grace, Bess, Mercy and their parents
Robert John and Bessie Driver, emigrated to Canada. They settled in Kingston when the sidewalks were boardwalks and the roads were cobbles. Kingston remained Margaret's home for the rest of her life, with the exception of a brief interlude in British Columbia. Here, Margaret met and
married Sidney Timothy Cruickshank (who predeceased her in 1981) ; they had three sons, David, John, and Peter (who died in 2017).A focal point of Margaret's life apart from her family , was St.
George's Cathedral. Her sons gave her a great deal of pleasure by singing in the Cathedral Choir of men and boys.  She was a choir mother and a founding member of the successful outreach program,
"Lunch by George". In later life, as an alternative to  slowing down, Margaret began travelling, visiting Israel, Germany, France, Switzerland, Bermuda, and, - her favourites England and Scotland. To the end of her life, Margaret loved nothing better than visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as with other family and friends. Margaret is survived by her sons David (Jean), and John (Mary Lynn who passed away in 2016) and by Peter's widow Marleen.
Margaret will be missed by grandchildren Andrew, Robin, Julie, Kate (who died in 2016), Jennifer, Laura Jane, David, Jordan, and Kelly.  She will also be missed by her 14 great grandchildren, as well as niece Susan Watt O'Reilly. There will be no visitation. Margaret's Funeral/Celebration of Life  will be held at ST. GEORGE'S CATHEDRAL (corner of King and Johnson Streets) on Monday, October 21st at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Humane Society or St. George's Cathedral.
