Obituary of Kenneth Peter Davies

DAVIES, Kenneth Peter

February 9, 1935 – October 5, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, brother and friend, Ken Davies of Kingston.  Ken, passed away after a brief illness at the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital at the age of 84.  Ken, will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Carmen, his loving son Mario and daughters Jane (Alan), Kathy (Colin), and Jill (Bob), and treasured granddaughters Nicola (Dan) and Franny.  Sadly missed by his sister Audrey (David), brother Keith, Yvonne (mother of his daughters) and many dear friends.

Ken was born in England to Kenneth and Kathleen Davies, and moved to Canada with his family as a young boy. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering with honours from McGill University in Montreal in 1957 and was, along with other colleagues, one of the pioneers of the electronic era. Ken spent his career working in the broadcast industry supporting standardization and development. His career provided the opportunity for him to represent Canada and included working for Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) and ITU (specialized agency of the UN). Ken travelled internationally to work on assignments in many countries chairing varied committees. He also worked in Morocco, and Switzerland where he and his wife Carmen wed in 1998. Ken spoke English, French, Spanish and German, and he loved to volunteer and to serve his community.  Ken was very active in his church and was always there to help, particularly with electrical and carpentry issues that needed to be fixed!  Ken's pride and joy throughout his retirement was spending quality time with his son, Mario. Both Ken and Carmen shared summers together with Mario camping and canoeing on Kearney Lake in Algonquin Park. Just weeks prior to his passing, Ken was taking long walks with his dog Skitter, driving his son to summer camp at Algonquin Park, barbecuing and spending summer with his wife on the back porch, and sitting around the campfire in his backyard; enjoying life and being in his favourite, happy place- among nature and in the outdoors.

Ken’s family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, ON, on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 392 Place Road, Kingston, on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 10:00 am, officiated by Père Bob Masters. A celebration of Ken’s life will follow the Mass in the Celebration and Reception Centre of the James Reid Funeral Home, entering from the rear parking lot doors.
