Winnifred Forte

Obituary of Winnifred Forte

FORTE, Winnifred (Winnie)
 (nee Paterson)

Winnie passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, August 6, 2019.  Winnie is dearly loved and will be missed by her husband of 68 years Charlie Forte as well as her children Chuck (Judy), Jeannie and niece Wendy Smith (late Jeffery Smith), and honorary daughter and dear friend Holly Conway.

The light of Winnie’s life were her beloved grandchildren Emily Chamberlain (Rory), Lauren Kirk (Matt), Ben Forte and great-niece Mallory Smith, as well as her great-grandchildren Brynn, Deacon, Myla, Jax and Vivian. The day before Winnie’s passing she spent a joyful day with family and friends celebrating a very important 7th birthday.

She is predeceased by her parents Charles and Ada (nee Tupper) Paterson, as well as her brothers David, Robert (Bobby) and sisters Audrey, Verna, and Mary (Tiny).

Winnie is survived by her siblings Charles (Brud) Paterson, Frances (Tootie) McQueen, Ruth (Bonnie) Gallagher and Gordon Paterson who she loved until her final breath. Winnie loved and will be missed by her many nieces and nephews and large extended family.

Winnie worked for many years with the Correctional Service of Canada and was one of the first females to work inside a male institution in Canada.  She was also one of the first female umpires for men's baseball in Kingston.  Truly a modern woman, a shining achievement for Winnie was her degree in Theology and her ordination as a Deacon in the Anglican Church. She loved her church family and was very involved with St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kingston her entire adult life.

The family extends sincere gratitude to all those who have had any part in Winnie's care over the past several years.

Family and friends will be received at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Sunday between the hours of 1:00 - 3:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm.  Funeral service at ST. PAUL'S ANGLICAN CHURCH (Queen Street at Montreal Street), on Monday, August 12 at 1:00 pm.  Reception to follow at the James Reid Reception Centre.  The family will gather privately at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens for the Committal at a later date.  As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to U.H.K.F. or St. Paul's Anglican Church in Winnie's memory.
