Obituary of Ernst Prohaska

Ernst Prohaska (92), of Kingston, Ontario, departed on his final adventure on June 25th 2019 . 

 

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 66 years, Ann, his children; son Ernst Jr. of Kelowna B.C., Ingried (Gerhard) Kingston, Joanne (Mario) California,  predeceased by son, Hansi Karl (1973). Opa to Joseph, Gerhard, Jason, Anton, Sabina,  Maria, Clint, Cathy, Cody, Cierra and Cameron. Great grandchildren, siblings, Bert, Bill, Anni, along with their families will all miss him.

 

Born in Leonding/Zaubertal, Austria to Ernst and Margarethe Prohaska, Ernst lived in Kingston, Ontario, and Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

 

Ernst immigrated to Kingston, Canada, November  1951, where he soon founded his own construction company, aptly named Prohaska Construction.

 

On the 1st of August, 1953 he married Ann Bronkhorst , his lifelong wife and partner.

Ernst was an imaginative entrepreneur, adventurer, world traveller, business man and avid member of many organizations.He co-founded the Austrian International Hall and Prost Bowling Centre. He was a visionary, who, along with partners, formed the  Kingston Home Builders' Association (1954), participated in creating a folkdance group, The Boys from the Austrian Alps (1962) and he was one of the founding fathers of the Kingston Folk Arts Council  (1967).  In 1979, Ernst, looking for a new adventure, moved to Arizona where he and his wife, Ann,  wintered each year, until returning permanently to Canada in 2013. Ernst was a proud member of the Lake Havasu Masonic Organization, and a Past President of the El Zaribah Shrine Club.

 

The funeral service will be held in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Blvd.) at 11 a.m. on July 13th, 2019. The family will be receiving condolences prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Following the reception, the Burial of the ashes will be conducted at St. Mary's Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
