Obituary of Dr. Robin Fraser Patchett
The Patchett family announces with great sadness the passing of Dr. Robin Fraser Patchett, 87, on Thursday 20 June 2019 in Kingston, Ontario.
Robin was born on 2 March 1932 in Christchurch, New Zealand to Myrtle and Huia Patchett. In December 1960 he married his devoted wife, Isobel (Bates). They raised two children, Michael Fraser (b.1961) (m. Kelly McGrath) and Rebecca Jane (b.1963) (m. Geoff McAlpine). Robin was extremely devoted to his four grandchildren, Colin Patchett, Susan Patchett, Celia McAlpine and Max McAlpine.
Robin was extremely proud of his service with the New Zealand Army, first as a member of the elite Regular Force Cadet School and then deploying to the Korean War for two years as an officer in the Royal New Zealand Army Service Corps. Following his military service he went on to obtain his Masters and PhD in Psychology from Victoria University in Wellington and was recruited by Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario where he enjoyed a very successful career culminating as Professor Emeritus.
Robin was an avid outdoors lover and a passionate traveller. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, sailing, canoeing and just relaxing at the family cottage on Manitoulin Island. His travels have taken him to many exotic locations around the world and he enjoyed nothing more than soaking up the history of wherever he visited.
The family will be returning his remains to New Zealand later in the year where a simple memorial ceremony will be held. Donations in memory of Robin may be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
