Obituary of William Haigh

HAIGH, William Frederick (Bill)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of William Frederick (Bill) Haigh of Kingston, Ontario on June 10, 2019, at the age of 91.

Born March 15, 1928 to the late Harry and Rita in Toronto, as a young man, Bill moved to Northern Ontario where he met and married the love of his life Rose. They spent most of their life in Sudbury, Ontario until retirement when they moved to Midland.

Bill had a long career in sales working for many different companies including Dow Breweries, Planters Peanuts, Imperial Tobacco, Berkel Limited and finishing his career at Diesel Equipment Ltd. During his career, Bill was an active member of ACT, a professional association dedicated to sales professionals.

Bill was an avid fan of jazz music and, in particular, Tony Bennett. He enjoyed spending time with his family, sitting around a campfire and playing cards on a rainy day at their camp on Bear Lake in Noelville, Ontario. He was also known for his sense of humour and the occasional practical joke on April Fool’s day.

He also enjoyed attending Ducks Unlimited dinners with his son, often coming home with a collection of prints or other paraphernalia.

Bill also enjoyed travelling on vacation with Rose, visiting warm climates, and on one occasion, surprising his daughter in the Bahamas where she had been vacationing with a friend.

He is predeceased by his wife Rose (Blake) of Sudbury and survived by his son Richard (Helen) of Kingston and daughter Sherri (Stephen Lamont) of Toronto, as well as his grand-daughter Holly Saunders (Fred) and great-granddaughter Olive of Kingston.

At Bill’s request there will be a private family celebration of life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or Ducks Unlimited Canada.
