Rose passed away peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Rose was born on Wolfe Island on September 17, 1928 to the late Earl and Harriet (Dawson) Payne. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack Baker, son Eckhard Baker, and brother-in-law Eckhard Baker (the late Mary) and is survived by her cherished daughter Colleen Barber (Gerry). Rose was the most doting Nanny to Hope Herrington (Jeff Looff) of Schertz, TX and the late Jack Herrington. She will be sadly missed by her sister Alice Graham (the late Cliff), brother Keith Payne (Elinor), nieces Kim Graham, Mary Young (Bill), Carol Watkins (John) and Anne McCracken (Brad), and nephews Steve Graham (Pam) and Chris Payne (Bridget). Rose and Jack were the owner and operators of Capital Movers and Storage for many years. She had many passions throughout her lifetime including painting, needlepoint, genealogy, gardening, anything technological earning her the nickname “Techno-Nanny” and most importantly her love of her family. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Cindy, Lisa, Alyssa, Jeff, Claire and all the staff of Davies 4, ICU at KGH, for the wonderful care that Rose received. A Liturgy of the Word service will be held in the Chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception in the James Reid Funeral Home Reception Centre. Friends will be received on Friday from 1:00 – 2:45 pm before the service. A private family interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Kingston Humane Society in Rose’s memory.
