Obituary of John Douglas Platt

It is with great sadness to announce that John Douglas Platt died suddenly at the age of 67 on May 8th 2019 of heart failure.  He was surrounded by his wife and children.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, his brothers Mike (Bev), Don (Leslyn) and sister Judy (Jim) He was predeceased by his brother Rick.  John will be missed dearly by his children Jay (Sarah), Chris (Jade), Samantha (Matt) and treasured grandchildren Piper, Libby, Wesley, Annabelle, Amelia, and Rhea.  He will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Born in Peterborough, John lived in several Ontario towns before his family settled in Kingston during his teen years.  John started his family as he worked as an electrician at Queens University.  He completed his degree at Queens with a major in Mathematics by the time his 3rd (Sam) was born (finally a daughter!).
Eventually, John left Queens to start his own renovation business, specializing in electrical work.  For the last 20 years Kingston Home Maintenance (KHM) grew, and during that time both of his sons became vital parts of the business.  He was proud to have passed the business to his eldest son Jay.
Along with meals, pool parties and celebrations with family and friends John enjoyed travelling to Mexico where he and Mary first met.  John and Mary returned frequently to Mexico to vacation and confirm the tequila stocks were being maintained. During one of his many adventures he was fortunate to sneak away and spend time with his second son Chris snorkeling alongside sharks in Belize. Along with his love of Mexico, John enjoyed playing baseball and basketball well into his 50's.  John also was passionate about justice and helping those less fortunate.  He was frequently involved with local and provincial politics. An active participant of the Ontario Health Coalition, NDP, and Labour Council John was always well informed and happy to discuss how recent policies would effect us all.
