It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce John’s death at the Kingston General Hospital on Saturday, February 9, 2019, in his 80th year. John is survived by his wife Linda, children Victoria, Stephen, Bill (Holly) and Christine (Corey Armitage) and grandchildren Arden, Colin, Katie, Maia, Paige and Carter. Dear brother of Andy (Noeleen) of Surrey, BC, the late Myrna Cassidy, Judy Anderson (Greg) of Toronto and Darlene Cassidy of Kingston. He will be sadly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends especially Harvey Stymest. John will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Joyce Capper, in England; and his sister-in-law, Amanda Capper (Frank Bock) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. John was born on April 1, 1939, in Inverness, Cape Breton, NS to George and Sarah (MacDougall) Cassidy and was a proud Cape Bretoner throughout his life. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A reception in his honour will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 12:00 – 3:00 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, Reception and Celebration Centre (1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, entering from the rear parking lot doors). In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the U.H.K.F. (Cancer Centre of SE Ontario), the Kingston Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
