Obituary of John Albert Brown
Brown, John A.
1937-2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John A. Brown. John passed away peacefully at KGH on January 31, 2019 at the age of 81. John was born in Kingston, Jamaica but lived for over 50 years in Kingston, Ontario. His pursuit of higher education led him to Queen’s University in Bermuda where he met his loving wife, Judith, and then to the main campus in Kingston, Ontario. Together they raised their four children: Andrew (Ahmet), Jason (Alethea), Jerome (Kerrie) and Michelle. Papa to Malika, Kya, Quincy; Jaiden and Leah.
He worked for many years at Frontenac Secondary School, teaching English and Spanish classes and coaching soccer and tennis teams.
Over the years he was also an active member of Kingston’s Caribbean community, helping to organize cultural events and games nights featuring dominoes.
John will be fondly remembered for his love of tennis, cricket, soccer and scrabble. He played all of these for as long as he could and was regularly meeting with friends that shared the same interests. He was also an avid traveller.
A celebration of life will occur at a later date. Those wishing to make donations are encouraged to give to Operation Smile or the Robert Sutherland Memorial Admission Award at Queen’s University.
