Obituary of Donald Gordon McBride
McBride, Donald Gordon CM
August 22, 1926 - January 30, 2019
Much loved and a very loving Don McBride, a life-long Kingston resident, passed away on January 30, 2019 surrounded by his family. Don will be forever remembered and his memory celebrated by his wife of 72 years, Joan, along with their children Sandy, Susan, Bonnie, Jo-Ann and Jennifer and their families including 2 sons-in-law, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Don was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army. Playing in the band and serving God by serving humanity brought him the greatest joy. Don and Joan were both made Companions of the Order of Canada in 1987 commemorating their overseas service trips rebuilding after natural disasters. On these trips they lived humbly and were able to provide employment to local personnel while helping to rebuild communities. Don enlisted in the Navy on his 17th and a half birthday and served on the HMCS Haida on the Murmansk Run. Don was in the construction business and a founding member of the Kingston Home Builders Association. Don and Joan's 72 years of marriage are an example to us all of love, devotion, humour and hard work. A service will be held on Tuesday, February 5 at 11:00 am at the Salvation Army Citadel at 816 Centennial Drive. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 10:50 am. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Kingston Salvation Army.
